THE ENERGY CHALLENGE
Hydropower is today the most important and most cost-effective renewable energy source we have, and it represents an important contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions .

The construction of small hydropower plants contributes to an increased degree of electrification through renewable energy production, which is particularly important in areas that need development.

Over the past 100 years, the development of hydropower has been of great importance for the development of Norway as a modern industrial country. Annual electricity production in Norway is approximately 150 TWh, and more than 90% of this is based on hydropower. Norway currently has the world's second highest per capita electricity consumption after Iceland.

Sustainability
When responsibly developed and operated, hydropower plants can directly support the achievement of four of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals:

Goal 6 : Ensure availability and sustainable management of water for all.
Goal 7 : Provide access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
Goal 9 : Upgrading infrastructure with clean, environmentally friendly technologies.
Goal 13 : Implement measures to combat climate change and its effects.
